What E2 means

On Wolf legacy induction ranges built before 2018, such as the IR304TE/S/TH and IR365TE/S/TH, code E2 means the temperature at an induction coil has climbed higher than the control allows. The cooktop cuts power to protect itself, so the affected zone stops heating and the display shows E2 until things cool down. If the code returns on a cold cooktop, the coil or its sensing needs a technician.

Common causes of E2

  • Pan left empty or boiled dry on the zone so the coil overheated
  • Poor airflow around the cooktop or a blocked cooling path
  • Coil temperature sensing that reads too high
  • Induction generator or coil that is running hotter than it should
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn all zones off and let the cooktop cool for at least 30 minutes. 2. Check that the pan is flat, centered, and has food or liquid in it. 3. Wipe away spills and make sure nothing blocks the vents near the cooktop. 4. Restore power at the breaker once, then try a low setting. If E2 returns right away, stop using that zone and call us.

! Why to stop there
  • A hot coil can mean a failing generator that keeps overheating
  • Repeated overheating shortens the life of the cooktop electronics
  • We measure the zone under load, not just guess from the code
  • Our written price comes before any work, with a 30-day workmanship warranty
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E2E2 questions
Can an empty pan trigger E2 on my Wolf induction range?

Yes. An empty or dry pan lets heat build quickly at the coil, and the cooktop shuts the zone down to protect itself. Let it cool, add food or liquid, and try again on a lower setting.

E2 appeared on a cool cooktop. What now?

That points away from cookware and toward the coil temperature sensing or the power electronics. Try one breaker reset after the cooktop has rested, and if E2 comes back, book a visit so we can test the zone.

Is it safe to keep cooking on the other zones?

Usually the other zones still work, but we suggest leaving the affected one off. An overheating coil can get worse, and using it repeatedly adds stress to parts that may still be good.
