What 1021 means

On Wolf M Series wall ovens, code 1021 means the relay that powers the upper oven's bake element is read as open, so the element is not getting its supply when the control calls for heat. The lower oven version is 1022. Owners see the code on the display, and the upper oven heats slowly or not at all from the bottom. Owners typically notice slow preheating or a mode that no longer heats the way it used to.

Common causes of 1021

  • The upper bake element relay on the relay board is open
  • A loose or burned connection at the bake element circuit
  • The upper bake element itself has failed
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Switch the oven off, then wait for the cavity to cool. 2. Make sure the oven breaker is on and has not tripped. 3. Reset power at the breaker for a minute, then try a short bake. 4. If the code returns, stop using that mode and call us. Do not touch the wiring behind the oven.

! Why to stop there
  • An element relay and the element behave identically when they fail, so only a meter test tells them apart.
  • On this code the cause may also be a loose or burned connection at the bake element circuit, or the upper bake element itself has failed, so we rule each out before we quote.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

10211021 questions
Why does the upper oven fail to preheat with 1021?

The upper bake element relay reads as open, so the bottom element may never receive power. Check that the oven is on and that the breaker is not tripped. Then we test the relay and element to see which one needs replacing.

Is the oven safe to use with this relay code?

The code means a heating output is not powered, which is a safe failure. The oven will not overheat from it, but cooking in that mode will be poor. We suggest avoiding the mode until we test it.

What does the repair cost?

We give you the price in writing before any work starts, after testing both the relay and the element. If only one needs replacing, we say so. The repair carries a 30-day workmanship warranty.
