On legacy Wolf dual fuel ranges with text error messages, such as the DF series, PROBE SHORTED means the meat temperature probe has failed with a short, and the official fix is to replace the probe. The oven cannot read it, so probe-based cooking is unavailable. Owners see PROBE SHORTED when the probe is plugged in, and normal baking usually still works. The rest of the oven is not affected.
1. Turn the oven off and let it cool. 2. Unplug the probe and look at the cord for cracks, kinks, or burn marks. 3. Wipe the probe and its jack with a dry cloth. 4. Try the oven without the probe. If PROBE SHORTED shows with no probe plugged in, call us so we can check the jack.
Usually yes. The message is about the probe, not the oven elements. Remove the probe and cook by time and temperature until it is replaced.
Heat, bending, and crushing in the oven door are the usual causes. A damaged cord can short, and the oven then reports PROBE SHORTED. Replace it with the correct one.
In most cases. If the message appears with the probe unplugged, the jack or wiring may be at issue, and we check that before you buy another probe.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
