On Wolf legacy induction ranges, including the IR304TE/S/TH and IR365TE/S/TH built before 2018, code E4 means the control board has found a configuration that does not make sense for the range. It is treated as a control board issue. Owners typically see E4 on the display and the cooktop will not heat normally, because the board no longer trusts its own settings.
1. Switch off every zone and the oven. 2. Turn the range off at its breaker for about two minutes, then turn it back on. 3. See whether E4 clears and the cooktop responds to a touch on a low setting. 4. If E4 comes back, do not keep power cycling it. Leave the range off and call us, since a board has to be tested on site.
It means the control board sees a configuration that is implausible for that range. In plain terms, the board's settings and the hardware it is connected to do not agree, so it blocks normal heating.
Sometimes a single reset clears a one-time glitch, so one try is reasonable. If E4 returns, the board is probably holding the wrong settings or has failed, and repeated resets will not help.
Not always, but it is the usual direction. We check the connections and the board's behavior first, then give you a written price before we order anything.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
