What F4 means

On Wolf convection steam ovens such as the CSO24 knob-control and CSO30, CSO2450 and CSO3050 touch-control models, F4 groups three slide-motor errors. E85 is a short in the slide motor, E86 is a break or open circuit in the slide (stepper) motor, and E87 means the slide valve is stuck with grease or jammed. The oven stops the cycle and displays F4.

Common causes of F4

  • Short in the slide motor (E85)
  • Open circuit in the slide or stepper motor (E86)
  • Slide valve stuck with grease or jammed (E87)
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Switch the oven off at the control and let it cool. 2. Wipe the cavity and door area so grease is not building up near the exhaust. 3. Restore power and run a short empty cycle to see whether the valve moves freely. 4. If F4 comes back, stop and call us rather than forcing anything.

! Why to stop there
  • The slide valve and its motor sit behind the cavity, out of reach without taking the oven apart.
  • A jammed valve and a failed motor need different parts, so testing comes first.
  • We give a written price up front and stand behind our work for 30 days.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

F4F4 questions
What is the slide valve on a steam oven?

It is the exhaust slide that opens and closes to manage steam and pressure in the cavity. F4 means its motor is shorted or open, or the slide itself is stuck with grease or jammed.

Can grease alone trigger F4?

Yes. E87 specifically lists a slide valve stuck with grease. Regular wipe-downs of the cavity help, but once the valve is jammed it has to be freed and checked by a technician.

Is it okay to cook without the slide valve working?

We would not. Steam and pressure control depend on it, so results will be poor and the oven keeps stopping. Book service and avoid repeated restarts.

Still seeing F4?
