On Wolf 24-inch E Series wall ovens such as the SO24TE/S/TH, E87 points to the exhaust slide valve. The official meaning covers three situations: grease deposits have left the valve stuck, the slide motor or valve is jammed mechanically, or the slide motor or its wiring has a short circuit. The display shows E87 and the oven may stop or limit cooking. The sister code E88 covers the stuck and jammed cases without the short.
1. Turn the oven off and let it cool for 30 minutes. 2. Wipe the cavity and door seal area of loose grease and spatter with a damp cloth. 3. Turn the breaker off for one minute, then back on. 4. Try a short bake. If E87 returns, stop using the oven and call us. Do not try to reach the valve yourself.
It is the small motorized slide that opens and closes the oven's exhaust path. When it cannot move, or its motor shorts, the control reports E87 and may stop the cooking cycle.
E88 reports only the stuck-with-grease and jammed motor or valve cases. E87 adds a third possibility, a short circuit in the slide motor or its wiring, so it needs electrical testing as well.
If grease alone is the cause, a professional cleaning of the valve area can free it. We confirm which of the three causes applies before quoting, so you do not pay for work that is not needed.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
