What Galveston homes change about a Wolf repair

Local housing, power events, water conditions, and installation styles all affect how we approach Wolf diagnostics here.

Housing

Silk Stocking Victorians and West End stilts

The Silk Stocking and East End districts keep some of the island's oldest houses, many on land that was built up after the 1900 storm. Toward the West End, a large share of homes went back up on stilts once Ike had passed.

A Wolf range in a raised beach house may be a flight or two up, so moving it takes planning and a lift. We bring floor protection and confirm stair access before any heavy removal.

Water

From Texas City across the railroad bridge

The island's water starts in the Brazos and travels by canal to a Gulf Coast Water Authority plant in Texas City. From there it crosses to Galveston in mains carried along the railroad bridge.

After a boil-water notice lifts, flush a plumbed Wolf steam oven or coffee system before using it. If either reports a water error afterward, we clean the inlet screen and test flow.

Weather & power

Grill corrosion on a hurricane island

Ike struck in September 2008 with a surge as high as 17 feet, flooding the East End five to six feet deep and damaging four of every five homes in the city. On calm days, salt air still settles on hinges, screws and outdoor metal.

Salt eats at a Wolf outdoor grill's igniter, valves and fasteners, and it can pit stainless grates. We clean and test igniters, free sticking valves and recommend a cover and a fresh-water rinse between uses.

Typical installs

Tight island kitchens and condo exhaust rules

Condos along the Seawall and raised beach houses tend toward compact kitchens. In the restored Victorians, a range is typically fitted with care into older cabinetry, and bigger renovations sometimes bring a wall oven too.

In a Seawall condo, a Wolf hood's exhaust may have to follow building rules, and a weak blower shows quickly in damp, salty air. We test the blower and damper and check the motor for corrosion.

Getting here means crossing the I-45 causeway, the longest run on our map, so island appointments are set a day or more ahead. Rental owners can have us come between guests; just tell us how the technician gets the key. Send a photo of the Wolf model plate so we bring the right igniter or valve.

Salt air is the local condition that ages Wolf grills and hoods fastest here, corroding igniters, valves and motor housings. We inspect for corrosion, test spark and airflow, and replace only what is failing. Corroded gas piping or a rusted receptacle on a raised deck needs a plumber or electrician before we go further.

04Galveston questions
Salt has pitted our Wolf grill grates. Should we replace the grill?

Usually not. Grates, igniters and valves can be replaced individually. We inspect the burners and body for deeper corrosion and give you a written price.

Our beach house is a rental. Can you work between guests?

Yes. Give us the gap between guests and the lockbox or key details, and we email the price for your approval before starting.

How far ahead should we book for the island?

A day or two ahead works best, since the causeway trip is our longest; you still get a three-hour arrival window.
