On Wolf V Series cooktop hoods such as the VW30S, VW36S, and VI42S, code 50 means the frequency detection at power-up wrongly read 50 Hz. The hood is meant to run on 60 Hz here, so it stays silent instead of starting the blower. The owner sees code 50 and no airflow. Cutting power and restoring it makes the hood repeat the detection.
1. Turn the hood off at the wall control. 2. Switch off the hood breaker for about a minute, then switch it back on. 3. Let the hood power up without touching the controls. 4. Try a low blower speed. 5. If code 50 returns after a power cycle, call us.
The hood checks the supply frequency at power-up and, on this code, wrongly found 50 Hz. It then stays silent on purpose. Power-cycling makes it run the detection again.
Not usually. US power is 60 Hz, so the detection simply misread it. A power cycle often clears it. If it keeps coming back, we check both the supply and the hood.
Switch the hood breaker off for about a minute and back on, without pressing controls during start-up. If code 50 returns, call us and we will quote the repair in writing first.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
