What E8 means

On Wolf legacy induction ranges, including the IR304TE/S/TH and IR365TE/S/TH built before 2018, E8 is a fan error. The cooling fan that protects the induction electronics is not running or not being sensed properly. The cooktop may reduce power or shut zones off to avoid overheating, and you may hear no fan noise after use when there normally would be some.

Common causes of E8

  • Cooling fan that has stopped or turns too slowly
  • Dust or debris restricting airflow to the fan
  • Fan wiring or connector that has loosened
  • Control board not reading the fan signal
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn all zones off and wait 30 minutes. 2. Check that nothing is stored against the range vents or under the cooktop area. 3. Restore power at the breaker once and run a low setting for a minute. 4. Listen for the fan after you turn the zone off. If E8 returns or the fan is silent, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • Without a working fan the electronics overheat and fail
  • Fan replacement is much cheaper than a burned board
  • We test the fan and its airflow before suggesting parts
  • Written price first, and a 30-day workmanship warranty
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E8E8 questions
Why does my induction range need a fan?

Induction electronics generate heat of their own, and the fan carries it away. If the fan stops, the cooktop protects itself by cutting power and showing E8.

Can I clean the fan myself?

We do not recommend it. Reaching it means opening the range, and the electronics store energy. You can keep the outer vents clear, but leave the rest to a technician.

Will E8 damage the cooktop if I ignore it?

Continued use with a dead fan can overheat the induction electronics, which is a far bigger repair. Stop using the zones and have the fan checked.
