On Wolf L Series legacy wall ovens with the Invensys control, such as the SO30F/S and SO36U/S, SPI COMM means communication was lost with the oven control board. The head assembly and the control board stopped exchanging data. The recommended check is the flex ribbon cable running from the head assembly to the control board. The oven may freeze on this message or ignore commands.
1. Turn the oven off at the breaker and wait one minute. 2. Restore power and see whether the display starts normally. 3. Avoid tilting or pressing on the panel. 4. If SPI COMM returns, leave the oven off and book service.
It is a lost communication message between the head assembly and the oven control board. On L Series ovens, the flex ribbon cable between them is the first item to check.
They are similar in spirit, but KEY COMM concerns the panel and controller, while SPI COMM concerns the head assembly and control board. We identify which link failed.
We advise against it. The cable runs through the head assembly near live electronics, and a bent contact can make the failure permanent. A technician does it safely.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
