What E46 means

On Wolf 24-inch E Series wall ovens like the SO24 and SO2450, E46 reports an elevated cavity temperature in phase 2 of a pyrolysis (self-clean) operation. The cavity ran hotter than the control allows during the cleaning cycle, so the oven stops the cycle and shows E46. Expect a locked door and a hot oven for a while afterward. The cycle does not resume on its own.

Common causes of E46

  • A temperature sensor reading wrong during cleaning
  • Heavy food residue burning hotter than expected
  • A heating control that did not switch off in time
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Do not open the door by force. Wait until the oven is fully cool and the latch releases. 2. Wipe out heavy spills and loose debris before the next cycle. 3. Reset the breaker for a minute. 4. Do not rerun pyrolysis. If E46 returns, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • Overtemperature during cleaning is a safety matter.
  • We test the sensor and heating control before the next cycle.
  • A written estimate and our 30-day warranty protect you.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E46E46 questions
What is pyrolysis phase 2?

It is the hottest stage of the self-clean cycle. E46 means the cavity got hotter than the oven allows during that stage. Phase 2 is the stage when the heat is at its peak.

Why is the door locked?

The latch stays locked while the cavity is very hot. Wait until it cools, and do not try to force it. Forcing it could hurt you or the latch.

Should I run the cleaning again?

No. Let us check first, because the cause could repeat and run the oven too hot. The cause may repeat otherwise. It also lets us explain what we found in plain words.
