On earlier-generation Wolf CT induction cooktops, including the CT30 and CT36 sizes, E4 flags that the heat sink for generator 3 is too hot. That generator feeds its own burners, which are held off until it cools. The display reads E4 and some cooking positions go dead. The same warning for generator 2 appears as E3, so the number tells you which section overheated.
1. Turn every burner off and take off the cookware. 2. Let the cooktop rest for about 30 minutes. 3. Make sure ventilation around and below the unit is open. 4. Cut power at the breaker for a minute, then turn it back on. 5. If E4 returns after a full cool-down, call for service.
E4 points to generator 3, so the burners it powers are blocked while the heat sink is hot. Burners on other generators can still work.
Better to wait. The cooktop shuts the section down on purpose. Let it cool, and if the code returns without heavy use, we will diagnose it.
They are siblings. E2, E3 and E4 are the heat sink warnings for generators 1, 2 and 3 in order, and each needs its own check.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
