What E06 means

On Wolf CT electric cooktops such as the CT15E/S and CT30E/S, E06 means the control sees shorted sensors. On Wolf integrated module cooktops from the 2015 series, such as the GM15TF/S, E06 means an error in the sensing circuit or calibration of the main RTD or steam fill RTD. In both cases the control no longer trusts its temperature readings, so the cooktop may limit or stop heating and show E06 on the display.

Common causes of E06

  • Shorted temperature sensor on a CT electric cooktop
  • Main or steam fill RTD sensing circuit out of calibration on a module cooktop
  • Control board that misreads sensor inputs
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn every element off and wait for the surface to cool. 2. Reset the cooktop circuit by turning its breaker off, waiting a minute, and on again. 3. Run the cooktop briefly on a single zone to see if E06 reappears. 4. If it does, stop and call us. Sensor wiring lies under the cooktop and is not for owners to test.

! Why to stop there
  • Sensors and RTDs cannot be checked without access beneath the cooktop and live power.
  • A calibration error and a shorted sensor need different repairs, so a firm diagnosis comes first.
  • A written price first, then the repair, then a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E06E06 questions
Does E06 mean the cooktop is unsafe?

The control is protecting itself because it cannot read temperature reliably. We suggest leaving it off until a technician checks the sensor circuit. Our technician explains what was found in plain words.

What is the difference on a module cooktop?

Module cooktops add the RTD and steam fill sensors. E06 there covers a sensing or calibration error, not simply a broken probe, so we test the circuit first.

Can I clear E06 with a breaker reset?

A reset is a fair first step, but if the sensors are still shorted or out of calibration, the code returns once the cooktop checks them again.
