Earlier Wolf CT induction cooktops, including the CT30 and CT36 sizes, use E40, E41 and E42 for a generator burner sensor that reads shorted. The affected burner is shut down by the control and will not heat until the cause is repaired. E40 shows up on screen while the rest of the cooktop may behave. Be careful with the number: on CI and IR ranges, E40 means a generator hardware error involving the relay or synchronization instead.
1. Switch off every burner and let the glass cool. 2. Turn the breaker off for a minute, then restore power. 3. Try the burner that shut down once. 4. If E40 comes back, leave it off and do not open the cooktop. 5. Call us with the model number and the code.
Not always. On CI and IR ranges E40 is a generator hardware error. On these earlier CT induction cooktops it is a shorted burner sensor.
They all describe a shorted generator burner sensor. The number tells us which burner's sensor read as shorted. The cost of the visit is quoted in writing before we start.
Possibly, because only the affected burner is shut off. We would still like to check it soon. Please do not remove covers, since that exposes live parts and may void other protections.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
