What E2 means

Wolf CT induction cooktops of the earlier CTI generation, including the CT30 and CT36 sizes, show E2 when the heat sink for generator 1 is too hot. Generator 1 drives the first group of burners, and those burners stay unavailable until the heat sink drops below 194F (90C). You will see E2 in the display and one section of the cooktop will not heat. E1, by contrast, is the ambient reading.

Common causes of E2

  • Heavy cooking that pushed generator 1 past its temperature limit
  • Restricted airflow or a cooling fan not moving enough air under the cooktop
  • Heat sink temperature sensing reading higher than the real temperature
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn off every burner and remove the pans. 2. Wait about 30 minutes while the heat sink cools; the burners return once it is under 194F (90C). 3. Check that the cabinet space under the cooktop is not packed with items blocking airflow. 4. Turn the breaker off for a minute and restore it. 5. If E2 appears again after a long cool-down, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • A heat sink that overheats again and again points to airflow or sensing problems that need hands-on checks.
  • Opening the cooktop means working near high-voltage parts, which we leave to trained technicians.
  • You get a written price before we start and a 30-day workmanship warranty afterward.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E2E2 questions
Which burners are affected by E2?

E2 refers to generator 1, so the burners fed by that generator are unavailable while it is hot. Other burners may keep working. Once the heat sink is below 194F (90C), the lockout ends.

Is E2 the same as E1?

No. E1 means ambient temperature too high, while E2 means the generator 1 heat sink is too hot. They are separate readings and need different checks.

How long until E2 clears?

Usually after the heat sink cools under 194F (90C), often within half an hour of no cooking. If it returns quickly or never clears, we can test the sensing and airflow.
