Is the Drawer Sensor on My Wolf Microwave Drawer Going Bad?

A Wolf microwave drawer will not heat unless it knows the drawer is fully shut. Here is how a failing position sensor tends to show itself and what to tell us when you call.

A Wolf microwave drawer is a different machine from a countertop or swing-door microwave. Instead of a hinged door and a simple latch switch, it uses a motorized drawer that glides open and closed, plus position sensors that report when the drawer has fully closed. The unit will not start a heating cycle until those sensors agree the drawer is shut.

How a sensor problem looks in daily use

  • The drawer appears closed, but pressing start does nothing.
  • A cycle begins, then stops partway through on its own.
  • The display shows a message about the door or drawer even though it looks shut.
  • The drawer hesitates, stops short or reopens when you close it.

Quick checks you can make

Open the drawer fully and look along the edges and the track for anything that could keep it from seating, such as a utensil, a food wrapper or a spill that has dried on the rail. Wipe the front edge and the seal area with a damp cloth. Close it with the touch control rather than pushing it by hand, and try a short cycle with a cup of water inside.

If the same behavior returns, the sensor, the drawer motor or the wiring between them is the likely area to inspect.

Why the drawer style matters when you book

Because the drawer has more moving parts than a latch, a technician checks a different set of things first. Telling us up front that you have a drawer model, and describing exactly when it stops, helps us arrive prepared.

Use our Wolf microwave repair page to set up the visit. No work starts until you have approved a written quote, and the repair includes a 30-day workmanship warranty. Your address can be checked against our service area.
