The first West U lots went on sale under Ben Hooper in 1917, and incorporation followed in 1924. A loosening of the city's building rules in the early nineties set off teardowns, and in the years up to 2002 a large share of houses were replaced with much bigger ones.
A new West U house may carry a 48-inch Wolf range or a rangetop under a powerful hood, which needs a properly sized duct and makeup air to pull well. When smoke lingers, we test the blower, the damper and the duct before blaming the hood itself.
West U operates its own system, drawing groundwater from the Evangeline Aquifer through city wells about 560 feet deep. That well water is mixed with treated surface water the city buys from Houston.
Groundwater tends to carry more minerals than surface water, so a Wolf convection steam oven here can scale up between descaling cycles. We check the descaling log, the steam generator and the reservoir seal, and we show you how to run the descale program.
Poor Farm Ditch carries much of West U's runoff to Brays Bayou, and it has flooded streets here since at least the 1920s. Harvey put water inside 116 homes in the city, and widening and deepening the ditch is now a county project.
A Wolf range or warming drawer in a kitchen that took water needs its lower wiring and gas valve inspected before it is used again. In a heavy downpour, a hood's wall or roof cap can also let water into the duct, and we check the damper for rust when that happens.
Rebuilt West U kitchens commonly stack a wall oven and a steam oven in custom cabinetry. Much of that cabinetry is panel-ready, so trim and panels come off first when we service anything behind them.
Pulling a Wolf E or M series wall oven from a tight cutout takes two people and floor protection, and we plan that before the visit. A phone photo of the rating plate, found inside the oven door frame, lets us bring the right element, sensor or board.
West U lies a few minutes off our inner-Loop routes, bounded by Kirby, Buffalo Speedway, Bellaire Boulevard and the edge of Rice Village. On weekdays, construction crews fill the narrow streets with parked trucks and cars. Please keep the driveway clear so we can bring a ladder or a heavy oven part to the door.
A home only a few years old may still have builder or manufacturer coverage on its Wolf appliances, so check the paperwork before we quote. We test the igniters, oven sensors and control board against what you describe, and we read any display code before ordering a part. If the problem is a tripped dedicated circuit or low gas pressure at the meter, that is work for an electrician or a plumber before us.

Not necessarily. West U mixes well water with Houston water, and minerals build up faster than many owners expect. We check whether the descale cycle finishes and whether the sensor reads correctly.
