What E17 means

Wolf CSO convection steam ovens, including the CSO24 and CSO30 series, use E17 for a short circuit in the food probe or its wiring. The official causes include a probe not inserted into the food so its tip gets too hot, moisture in the probe socket, and a temperature short circuit in the probe. The oven stops using the probe and shows E17.

Common causes of E17

  • Food probe not inserted into the food, leaving the tip to overheat
  • Moisture in the food probe socket
  • Short circuit in the probe or its wiring
  • Temperature short circuit reported by the probe
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Unplug the probe from the socket and let the cavity cool. 2. Dry the socket opening and the plug with a clean towel. 3. Reinsert the probe fully and push the tip into the center of the food. 4. Try again. 5. If E17 returns with a dry socket, stop using the probe.

! Why to stop there
  • Probe wiring and the socket behind it can only be tested with meters.
  • A damaged probe can be mistaken for a socket problem.
  • We test both and quote in writing before replacing anything.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E17E17 questions
Can moisture really cause E17?

Yes, the official causes list moisture in the probe socket. Dry it, let the oven air out, and try again. If it repeats, a short is likely.

Is the oven safe without the probe?

Timed cooking does not need the probe, so the oven can usually be used that way. We still suggest a check so the short does not spread.

Do I need a new probe?

Not always. We test the probe and socket separately, so you only pay for the part that has the problem.
