On legacy Wolf dual fuel ranges with text error messages, such as the DF series, OVER TEMP means the oven passed its safety temperature limit: 630 degrees F in unlocked mode or 930 degrees F when locked, as in self-clean. The control shuts heating off to protect the range. Owners see OVER TEMP and the oven stops heating until it cools down.
1. Turn the oven off and keep the door closed. 2. Let it cool completely, which can take a couple of hours. 3. Reset the range at its breaker by leaving it off for two minutes. 4. If any burning smell or smoke is present, stay clear and call us. If OVER TEMP returns, do not use the oven.
The oven trips at 630 degrees F in normal unlocked operation and 930 degrees F while locked for self-clean. Passing either one makes the control stop the heat.
It can. Self-clean runs near the locked limit, so a sensor error or heavy buildup may push it over. We check the sensor and controls before the next self-clean.
Take it seriously. The shutoff is working as designed, but we want to know why the oven got that hot. Keep the oven off until it is checked.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
