On Wolf induction ranges IR30450/S/T and IR36550/S/T, introduced in 2018, code E20 covers three conditions on the cooktop: a heat sink sensor failure (0x27), a temperature pin short (0x36), or an invalid zone temperature (0x41). The generator cannot trust its temperature reading, so the affected zone stops heating. Owners see E20 on the display and one or more zones go cold.
1. Turn all zones off and allow the cooktop to cool completely. 2. Wipe any spill off the glass. 3. Switch the range off at the breaker for two minutes, then on again. 4. Try a low setting with a flat pan. 5. If E20 returns, note the zone and call us. The sub-code needs a technician's tools.
The cooktop records 0x27, 0x36, or 0x41 internally. Each points to a different temperature problem: heat sink sensor, a shorted pin, or an invalid zone reading. We read which one is active.
Not from the display. The sub-code is retrieved in service diagnostics, which is why we arrive with the right tools instead of guessing at parts.
If heat caused it, yes. But a sensor failure or short stays after cooling, so a returning E20 should be checked rather than reset again and again.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
