Wolf M Series wall ovens such as the SO3050TM/S/T report 4231 when the upper broil element is not detected. The control sends power to the element and sees no current return, so it treats the element as missing. You will see 4231 on the display. Broil may stay cold, and browning or toasting takes far longer than usual. The lower cavity of a double oven is covered by its own code.
1. Clear the oven of food, turn it off, and let it rest until cool. 2. Interrupt the oven's power at the breaker for two minutes, then resume. 3. Try a short Bake and check for 4231 on the display. 4. If it comes back, skip those modes and book a visit. The element terminals are behind panels and should not be touched.
It sends power to the element and looks for the electrical load that should follow. When nothing shows up, the control reports the element as absent, even if it is physically in place.
If broil still heats normally, light use is usually fine. Stop if you smell burning or see sparks, and shut the breaker off. A dead element is rarely dangerous, but a hot connection can be.
We check the element's resistance, inspect its terminals for heat marks, and confirm the relay board is sending power. Then we explain what failed and give a written quote.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
