What 0B31 means

Wolf M Series wall ovens log 0B31 when the triac for the upper oven's cooling fan is read as shorted. The lower oven's cooling fan reports 0B32, and 0B20 or 0E20 are alternate numbers for it. The cooling fan, which protects the controls and door area, may run constantly, and the code appears on the display. The fan itself may be perfectly healthy while its switch is the failed piece.

Common causes of 0B31

  • The upper cooling fan triac is shorted
  • Wiring or a connector on the cooling fan circuit
  • The cooling fan motor drawing too much current
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Cancel any cooking and let the cavity cool. 2. Reset power at the breaker, wait a minute, restore it. 3. Run a short bake and listen to the fan. 4. If the code shows again, book service and skip convection until then.

! Why to stop there
  • Running with a bad fan circuit can overheat the controls or cook unevenly.
  • On this code the cause may also be wiring or a connector on the cooling fan circuit, or the cooling fan motor drawing too much current, so we rule each out before we quote.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

0B310B31 questions
Should the cooling fan keep running with 0B31 on screen?

A shorted cooling fan switch can leave that fan powered, so a fan that never stops is expected with this code. The fan is protective, so the oven is not in danger, but the switching circuit needs checking.

Is it a fire risk when a fan will not behave?

The code itself does not point to fire. It does mean a protective fan is not under control, and heat can build in the cabinet. Limit use and let us test the circuit.

Will you replace the board without telling me?

No. We tell you which part failed and show the written price before touching anything. Repairs carry a 30-day workmanship warranty, and we only replace what tests bad.
