On Wolf CE electric cooktops from 2015 on, including the CE304C/B and CE365T/S, E5 is a relay error. A relay on the control, the switch that sends power to the heating elements, is not acting the way the board commands. You will see E5 on the display, and one or more elements may not heat or may not turn off normally.
1. Turn all knobs or touch controls off. 2. If an element stays hot or glowing when it should be off, switch the breaker off right away and call us. 3. Otherwise let the glass cool, reset the breaker for one minute, and try one element. 4. Once E5 returns, stop using the cooktop and book a visit.
It can be if an element will not shut off. Use the breaker to cut power in that case. If the cooktop turns off normally, the risk is lower, but we still advise a prompt check.
Cleaning helps with touch controls that react badly to moisture, but E5 is a relay report from inside the control, so a clean surface will not clear it.
Usually not. A relay or control board repair costs far less than a new cooktop, and we quote it in writing first so you can decide.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
