What E4 means

On Wolf CI induction cooktops with the 2015-and-newer control, such as the CI304T/S and CI365C/B, E4 means the control board has read a configuration that does not make sense for the unit. In plain words, the board's stored setup and the hardware it finds do not agree. The display shows E4 and the cooktop usually refuses to heat until the condition clears.

Common causes of E4

  • Control board holding a corrupted or mismatched configuration
  • Replacement control board that was not set up for this exact size
  • Loose or damaged harness between the control and the power section
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn every zone off and let the glass cool. 2. Turn the cooktop's breaker off for one minute, then reset it. 3. Wipe the glass dry and remove pans and spills from the touch area. 4. If E4 returns, stop using the cooktop and call us. Do not lift the unit or open any panel yourself.

! Why to stop there
  • A configuration error points at the control board, which cannot be judged by looking at the glass.
  • You get a written price first.
  • Opening a powered induction unit risks shock, so we handle it with the right tools.
  • Our repair carries a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E4E4 questions
Will turning the breaker off clear E4?

It can clear a one-time glitch, so one reset is worth trying. If E4 comes straight back, the board is reading a real mismatch, and further resets will not fix it.

Is it safe to keep cooking on the other zones?

If the cooktop lets you heat, nothing dangerous is happening, but an implausible configuration can change how power is shared. We suggest pausing use until we check it.

Do you quote before replacing the board?

Yes. We diagnose first, give you the price in writing, and only start work after you approve it. Our 30-day workmanship warranty then covers the repair.
