What E55 means

E55 closes the E53 to E55 series on earlier Wolf CT induction cooktops, such as the CT30 and CT36 sizes, and reports a shorted generator heat sink thermistor. The cooktop cannot read the heat sink temperature, so heating for that generator may be restricted. You will see E55 in the display and some burners may refuse to start. The open version of the same sensor reading is E50 through E52.

Common causes of E55

  • Heat sink thermistor reading shorted
  • Generator board input failing in the sensing circuit
  • Wiring to the thermistor damaged
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Switch off all burners and let the unit cool. 2. Turn the cooktop breaker off for a minute and on again. 3. Test one burner on low. 4. If E55 returns, do not keep trying. 5. Book a visit and give us the model number from the data label.

! Why to stop there
  • Temperature monitoring is a safety function, so a reading we cannot trust needs a proper test.
  • We keep the repair work under the glass with trained technicians only.
  • Our price is in writing before work and a 30-day workmanship warranty follows.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E55E55 questions
Why are there so many codes for the same sensor?

Each number points to a different generator or position. E53, E54 and E55 all share the shorted thermistor meaning. We test every function we touched before we call the job done.

Can I cook on the other burners with E55?

Some may still work, but the cooktop is protecting itself for a reason. We suggest waiting for a check. Where we can, we offer the repair at the same visit once you approve the price.

What fixes E55?

That depends on a test of the thermistor and generator board. We explain the result and the written price before any work. Report anything unusual such as smells or noises when you call, so we prepare properly.
