What E8 means

E8 is a fan error on Wolf CI induction cooktops with the 2015-and-newer control, CE electric cooktops such as the CE304C/B, and the 2015 integrated modules like the TM15TF/S. The control found that the cooling fan is not running as expected. Without good airflow the electronics can overheat, so the cooktop may cut power or limit heat while E8 shows.

Common causes of E8

  • Cooling fan not turning or turning too slowly
  • Blocked airflow under or around the cooktop
  • Fan connection or control board problem
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn all zones off and let the cooktop cool. 2. Check that nothing is stored directly under the cooktop blocking the vents, such as boxes or a cutting board. 3. Turn the cooktop's breaker switch off for 60 seconds, then reset it. 4. Should E8 reappear, stop using the cooktop and contact us for a visit. Do not open the unit.

! Why to stop there
  • The fan sits inside the cooktop, and replacing it needs removal of the unit from the counter.
  • Running a cooktop with poor cooling can damage the electronics, so we do not recommend working around E8.
  • You get a written estimate before work.
  • Our repair comes with a 30-day workmanship warranty, confirmed in writing.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E8E8 questions
Can I keep using the cooktop with E8?

It is better not to. The fan protects the electronics from heat, and heating without it risks damage that can cost far more than the fan itself.

Could storage under the cooktop cause E8?

Yes. Items pressed against the underside can restrict airflow. Clearing them is a fair first step, though a failed fan will keep showing E8 even after the vents are clear.

Is E8 the same on all three cooktop types?

Yes. CI induction, CE electric, and integrated modules all use E8 for a fan problem, so the visit begins at the fan and its airflow.
