What E65 means

On Wolf CT electric cooktops (CTE and CTE-2), such as the CT30E/S and CT36EU, E65 is an L1 associated failure, including a stuck relay. One of the two incoming power legs, L1, is involved in a relay that is not releasing or switching as it should. The display shows E65, and an element may stay energized or fail to heat.

Common causes of E65

  • Relay on the L1 side stuck closed or failing
  • Power module needing replacement
  • Wiring problem on the L1 leg
✓ One safe check you can try

1. If any element stays hot with the controls off, switch the breaker off immediately. 2. Otherwise let the cooktop cool and reset the breaker for one minute. 3. When E65 shows up again, stop using the cooktop and arrange a technician. Do not touch internal wiring.

! Why to stop there
  • A stuck relay can keep power flowing, so we treat E65 as a safety matter.
  • Testing the relay needs the unit isolated and opened by a technician.
  • We quote before we begin.
  • Our fix carries a 30-day workmanship warranty, confirmed in writing.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E65E65 questions
What does L1 mean?

A household cooktop is fed by two live legs, called L1 and L2. E65 points to the relay or the wiring on the L1 side of the power supply.

Why use the breaker if an element will not turn off?

The breaker is the only reliable way to cut power when a relay is stuck closed and an element will not turn off. Use it, then call us.

Will you replace the whole cooktop?

Usually not. Most of these repairs involve the power module or a relay rather than the whole unit, and we price the exact part for you first.
