What E50 means

E50 has different meanings on two Wolf platforms. On CT electric cooktops (CTE and CTE-2), such as the CT30E/S and CT36EU, it means the heatsink thermistor reads open, so the control cannot monitor its own temperature. On touchscreen CI induction cooktops like the CI30460T/S, it means a continuous key push on the master, as if a touch is held down.

Common causes of E50

  • CT electric: open heatsink thermistor circuit
  • Touchscreen CI: a stuck or constantly sensed key press
  • Control board or touch panel needing attention
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn everything off and let the glass cool. 2. Wipe the touch area with a dry cloth and remove anything resting on the controls, such as pots, towels or spills. 3. Turn the cooktop's breaker switch off for one minute, then reset it. 4. If E50 comes back, stop and arrange a technician.

! Why to stop there
  • Two different problems share this code, and the right repair depends on your model.
  • The thermistor sits inside the unit, where it cannot be reached safely at home.
  • You get a written estimate first.
  • Our repair comes with a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E50E50 questions
Why would a clean screen still show a key push?

Moisture, a worn touch layer, or a failing panel can register a press that is not there. If wiping fails to help, the touch panel or board needs a technician.

Does E50 on an older CT cooktop mean it will overheat?

The control cannot read its heatsink temperature, so it may limit or stop heating to protect itself. That is why the cooktop may seem to shut down.

Can I tell which meaning I have?

Yes. CT30E/S and CT36E/S style cooktops use the heatsink meaning, while CI30460T/S and CI36560T/S touchscreen models use the key-push meaning. Your model label on the data plate settles it.
