What TCO detect as open means

On Wolf Legacy E Series wall ovens from the SO30TE/PE generation, code 05 x 0 means the thermal cutoff (TCO) was detected as open. Reasons include a failed TCO, a cooling fan problem, an airflow problem, or extended operation at a high setpoint, in which case the TCO resets itself automatically. The oven loses heat and shows the message. The oven cannot heat while the cutoff reads open.

Common causes of TCO detect as open

  • Thermal cutoff open (failed)
  • Cooling fan not moving enough air
  • Airflow restricted around the oven
  • Extended operation at a high setpoint, with auto-reset TCO
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Switch the oven off and let it cool for at least an hour. 2. Clear anything blocking the vents around the trim. 3. Restore power and run a moderate bake. 4. If 05 x 0 returns, or you hear no fan, stop and call us.

! Why to stop there
  • A tripped cutoff can mean real overheating, so the cause must be found.
  • Fan and airflow checks involve taking the oven out of the cabinet.
  • A written price comes first and our work carries a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

What is the TCO?

It is a thermal cutoff, a safety device that opens the circuit if temperatures run too high. Code 05 x 0 says it is reading open. It may reset by itself after long high-heat operation.

Will it reset on its own?

In the high-setpoint case the auto-reset TCO closes again as it cools. If the code returns, the cutoff, fan or airflow still needs a technician's check.

Should I check the cooling fan?

Listen for it during a short bake. If you hear no airflow, shut the oven off. A missing fan is one of the listed causes and needs repair.
