On Wolf L Series legacy wall ovens with the Invensys control, such as the SO30U/S and SO36U/S, RTD SHORTED means a shorted circuit was detected on the RTD sensor that reads the oven temperature. With a short, the control gets a reading it cannot use, so heating stops and the message shows. The prescribed repair is replacing the RTD sensor.
1. Let the oven cool completely. 2. Turn the breaker off for a minute, then back on. 3. Run a short low bake to see whether the message clears. 4. If RTD SHORTED returns, stop using the oven and book service.
OPEN means the sensor circuit is broken, SHORTED means it is shorted together. Either way the control cannot read cavity temperature, and the usual repair is a new RTD sensor.
The control stops heating when the reading is invalid, which protects the oven. We still suggest not forcing restarts and getting the sensor tested. Repeated restarts add nothing, so let us test the sensor instead.
This message concerns the oven RTD, not the meat probe. A shorted probe shows PROBE SHORTED instead, so the two are easy to separate. Reading the code correctly saves a wrong-part visit.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
