Wolf M Series Wall Oven Code 4231: Upper broil element not detected

What 4231 means

Wolf M Series wall ovens such as the SO3050TM/S/T report 4231 when the upper broil element is not detected. The control sends power to the element and sees no current return, so it treats the element as missing. You will see 4231 on the display. Broil may stay cold, and browning or toasting takes far longer than usual. The lower cavity of a double oven is covered by its own code.

Why does the oven say the upper broil element is missing?
