What 3031 means

On Wolf DFxx50 dual fuel ranges from 2020 on, such as the DF30450/S/P and DF36450G/S/P, code 3031 means PROBE SHORTED. The control sees a short in the circuit of the meat probe, so it cannot read a temperature from it. You will see 3031, and cooking with the probe is blocked. The oven itself usually still bakes normally when you do not use the probe.

Common causes of 3031

  • Meat probe with a damaged cable or tip
  • Probe plug or oven jack that is bent, wet, or dirty
  • Probe circuit wiring inside the oven that reads as shorted
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Remove the probe from the food and from the oven jack. 2. Let the probe and the jack cool, and dry them if wet. 3. Plug the probe in firmly, checking that the plug and cable look straight and undamaged. 4. Try again. If 3031 remains with the probe out, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • If the code stays with the probe unplugged, the issue is inside the oven, not the probe.
  • A bad jack should be tested with power off, which owners cannot safely do.
  • Written quote first, and a 30-day warranty on the repair.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

30313031 questions
What does PROBE SHORTED mean?

The control sees a short circuit where the meat probe connects. It cannot read the probe, so probe cooking is locked out until the circuit reads normally.

Can I bake without the probe?

Usually yes. Take the probe out and use time and temperature instead. If the code still shows without the probe, tell us and we will check the circuit.

Should I buy a new probe?

Try cleaning and reseating first, or test with a known-good probe if you have one. If the code stays, the oven side may be the cause, and we diagnose before quoting.
