E85, which some displays show as F4, is an electrical code on Wolf CSO convection steam ovens such as the CSO24 and CSO30 series. The official meaning is a short circuit in the slide motor or its wiring, or a short circuit in the stepper motor. Owners see E85 and the oven will not operate normally, because the exhaust slide cannot be driven. A short circuit is treated seriously and should not be tested by an owner.
1. Turn the oven off and switch its breaker off. 2. Wait a minute, then restore power once to see if the code clears. 3. If E85 or F4 returns, leave the breaker off and stop using the oven. 4. Call us. Do not open the casing, touch wiring or test anything yourself.
A short circuit is serious enough that we advise turning the breaker off and not using the oven until it is checked. Nothing needs to be done to the wiring by you.
F4 is the label some displays use for the E85 and E86 slide and stepper motor conditions. Your code decides which page applies, and both lead to the motor circuit.
We test the slide motor, the stepper and the wiring, quote the repair in writing, and begin only after you approve. We would also rule out short circuit in the stepper motor before recommending anything.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
