What E9 means

On Wolf CI induction cooktops with the 2015-and-newer EGO control, for example the CI304T/S and CI365C/B, E9 is a temperature monitoring error. The control cannot read or trust the temperature signal it uses to protect the glass and electronics. The display shows E9, and the cooktop may reduce power or stop heating. Heating may slow down or stop while the code shows.

Common causes of E9

  • Temperature sensor reading out of range
  • Sensor connection loose under the glass
  • Control board misreading the sensor
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn off all zones and let the glass cool fully. 2. Remove any pan with a very hot or empty base from the surface. 3. Turn its breaker switch off for 60 seconds, then back on. 4. When E9 shows up again, leave it off and call us. Do not lift the glass.

! Why to stop there
  • Temperature sensors sit beneath the glass, where only a technician should work.
  • We test the sensor circuit before ordering parts.
  • You receive a written estimate before work.
  • Our job comes with a 30-day workmanship warranty, confirmed in writing.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E9E9 questions
Can an empty pan trigger E9?

Heating an empty pan can overheat the glass quickly and trip temperature protection. If E9 showed after that, let it cool and test again with a filled pan.

What if E9 appears on a cold cooktop?

Then the issue is probably the sensor or its connection, not the cooking. That calls for a technician to test the sensor circuit under the glass.

Is E9 the same on integrated modules?

The meaning is the same on newer integrated modules, which show it as E9 (CI/TM). The visit begins at the temperature sensor either way, so you can expect the same checks.
